Lower Price on Beef For Everyone

Hello! I wanted to let everyone know that we have lowered our price on our beef. There are a multitude of reasons which I will briefly go over here.

Doug and I were having a conversation about how we are selling more beef this year than in any year prior. We are more than doubling our beef compared to last year. We do no purchase our cattle to be sold. Every animal is born and raised on our farm, 100% grass-fed and grass-finished on certifiable organic pasture, i.e. no pesticides/herbicides, and no synthetic fertilizers. We are able to double our production because we are no longer looking to build our base herd numbers.

Our base herd is our cows. Up until recently, we sold the steers, males, and kept the females to increase our breed herd. We have reached our carrying capacity for our current land base and can now offer twice the beef.

After our conversation, we decided to lower our prices for two reasons. The first reason is it will make our beef more accessible to families as it will be substantially more affordable. At first, I thought about pulling out some of the hidden features of our beef, e.g. free pickup and delivery directly to your house, storage, or custom ordering instructions. This would then be offered as an option for an additional cost. However, our current system works fairly well and I like keeping the billing as simple as possible. The second reason is that while we were not the most expensive 100% grass-fed beef I could find on the inter-webs, we also were not the cheapest. We will be the cheapest now, cheaper on a per pound basis of even grocery store beef. Below I geek out on math if interested:

Grain-fed commodity beef equivalent 1/2 grocery store package cost:

~$798 for 175 lb hanging weight is $4.56/lb on hanging weight

~$200 processing fees

~$998 total cost

With a 65% yield, take home weight is 113 pounds

Price/lb of take home weight is ~$8.83/lb

Our 100% grass-finished gourmet beef equivalent 1/2 cost now:

~$744 for $175 lb hanging weight is $4.25/lb on hanging weight

~$200 processing fees

~$944 total cost

With a 65% yield, take home weight is 113 pounds

Price/lb of take home weight is ~$8.35/lb

Add on top the free delivery and not having to drive to a grocery store for your beef, the savings are substantial. Invite your friends to join in!
